UAE Science Festivals

UAE Science Festivals

Every year we participate in the organization of science festivals across the UAE in collaboration with the NYUAD Research Outreach and Communication team. At our booth, young and old alike are invited to observe the living world, from the molecular to cellular and animal scale, using microscopes and DNA extraction techniques. Simple experiments, i.e observation of their own cheek cells (cell-fie), mouth bacteria, and wild type versus mutant C. elegans worms, raise awareness about basic questions in biomedical research.

Gunsalus & Piano lab members, Hala Fahs and Fathima Shaffra Mohammed Refai,  presented demonstrations about C. elegans as a model organism at the Think Science Fair at the Dubai World Trade Center in 2015.

This three day event targets UAE youth aged 15-24 and is designed to help develop knowledge and learning in STEM fields and “aims to motivate and inspire the UAE youth to pursue their curiosity and passion and to think about solutions to real-world problems.”

Abu Dhabi Science Festival is more addressed to children and families and invites them to explore various workshops and fun scientific activities. For several days we participate in explaining to the public basic biological topics while keeping the theme: “learning is fun!”
